Social engagement (26/2/2016)

This is my first day for social engagement activity and the destination is SK Sri Kelana. We were doing fitness assessment with the children. Before going for this activity, I do not have any chance to mix in with special children. After this activity, I have learnt a lot of things. One of the most values that I learnt is to be patient. Most of the special children were impatient. We have to give instructions to them patiently. Sometimes we maybe need to tell them a few times and sometimes they maybe do not know what are we try to say. We will face difficulties while run fitness assessment and patient is the best way to solve it. For example, some children cannot know the instructions while we are taking for the first time. So, we have to tell them one by one patiently to let them know what they have to do. Sometimes we have to tell a few times so they can fully understand.


Social engagement (4/3/2016)

The next destination is SMK Kelana Jaya. Same with the previous time, we also do the fitness assessment with the children. But this time we will face secondary school students. Although I face many difficulties such as communication problems, but I felt very enjoy in this activity more than felt stressed facing with them. From this activity, I have learnt another value which is understanding. Before this, I cannot understand what are they thinking and why they act different with us. After this, I can know that every people’s thinking is different. Maybe they have their own thinking and cannot understand what are we doing. What we need to do is to give direction to them and let them follow. For example, for running activity, some of the special children may feel difficulty to run. So, we have to be patient while giving instructions and help them to do the activity.


Social engagement (27/3/2016)

This time is different with the previous activity. This time we are going to MBPJ for Car Free Day event. We going to do many activities such as painting, riding and playing traditional games. The main purpose for this event is to urge people about the awareness of environment problems especially the gas emission of car that bring negative effect to us. From this activity, I learnt how important is the role of environment to human. It brings many benefits to human but we did not care about it. This activity can bring impact to human so that we can more concern about environment problems. For example, around the area of the event, there is nobody use car as transportation. Most of the public walk or ride as transportation.


Social engagement (8/4/2016)

Our destination for this time is SK Sam Yoke. Same with previous event, we will do fitness assessment for the students. We are separate to three team and lead them along the activity. Most of the students have their own disability. Same goes with us, we are not perfect human. Although we are smarter than them, but we still have weakness in some of the aspect. Even some of them can doing the assessment without our help. I feel disappointed because some of the people still cannot accept them and even some of the people discriminate them as a disabled people. I hope that society will give some attention to these children and do not discriminate them because what they need is just caring from us.


Social engagement (6/5/2016)

This is my last time activity for social engagement and the destination is the same with the first time which is SK Sri Kelana. This time we will do different activity with them such as transferring water with a sponge, two people-three legged race and drawing and sketching. I saw some familiar faces and they do not hesitate to approach me. I manage to carry on all the activity successfully because I already build relationship with them in the previous time. From the section for drawing and sketching, I found that some of them have talent in imagination and creativity. This talent should not be neglect and teacher have to discover their talent. Because of social engagement, I know that the responsibility for university students are not just studying for examination, but we also need to take care about what is happen in our surrounding area, which is also our responsibility to the society.
